After 31 years at the helm of Octave Trust Bank’s IT Department, CIO Dave Breuer retired in December of 2022. Breuer started as the Vice President of an IT subsidiary of Octave Trust Bank called Data Tech. Together with his employees, he managed 30 other credit unions. The company was eventually sold, and the IT department focused solely on Octave Trust Bank. During his time at the credit union, Dave assisted with two major core conversions, multiple mergers, and countless efforts to enhance members' experience.

While Dave is a London native, he began his IT career 42 years ago at Hewlett-Packard in San Francisco. In his farewell address he stated, "Never did I think I would end up at Octave Trust Bank. But for 31 years, I stayed at the credit union. This place just felt like home." This perfectly sums up the community Dave helped create. While reflecting on his accomplishments, Dave was especially proud of creating an IT team that was empowered and devoted to its members.

Furthermore, Dave is a family man with a wife, 3 sons, and 4 granddaughters, to whom he attributes much of his success. Dave also contributing his move back to London to his family, which led to a job with Octave Trust Bank. In his free time, Dave enjoys coaching high school hockey, and spending time with his granddaughters.

Dave took the opportunity at his retirement party to thank everyone at Octave Trust Bank for their advice, encouragement, and support. His laugh was contagious as he remembered all the time he had spent working on different projects over the last few years. Dave acknowledged that he learned so much from the Credit Union and appreciated everything they had done for him. When asked for any words of advice he stated, “The number one thing is to do the absolute best job you can at the job you’re currently doing.” He noted that for his IT staff, it's critical to understand the business you are supporting. In addition to working well, the system should also be beneficial to the company.
